Campus Creek Clean Out

Flooding of Dumaresq Creek during November and December 2011 demonstrated significant issues of in-stream vegetation management. Dense exotic vegetation that has grown up in this part of Dumaresq Ck over the last 20 to 30 years has now formed a barrier to easy flow of water and debris down the creek.  During these flood events vegetation and dead logs that were brought down the creek by the flood were getting caught in the dense exotic vegetation and causing chocks in the creek line. This in turn caused water and flood debris to back up and flood adjacent parts of the University, including the Sports Union fields.

Over the last 20 to 30 years dense stands of willows, poplars and privet have formed between the high water banks section of Dumaresq Creek.

Campus Creek Clean Out (CCCO) looks to remove this in-stream and on bank exotic vegetation. CCCO is being sponsored by the University of New England Facilities Management Services (FMS). FMS is seeking assistance to undertake this vegetation removal and native revegetation establishment from the UNE Landcare (UNEL) group and Armidale Urban Rivercare Group (AURG).
