Natural regeneration!

The acacias are multiplying!

Some of the current plantings have been at the Dumaresq Ck site for over 5 years. After all of the rain this summer, and a bit of TLC to get the competitive edge on weeds, they are looking absolutely glorious.

Whilst doing some maintenance work on the plantings this weekend, Mic spotted some very exciting stuff. The acacias have set seed, and frogs are loving the creeklands.

2012

2011 saw UNE Landcare back in action on campus. After a five year lull, work has resumed to regenerate the bush and riparian lands at UNE.

Some highlights:

630 new seedlings planted along Dumaresq Ck

over 5 ha of bush regeneration

two plant identification work shops

one really big truck getting bogged

None of this would have been possible without the support of UNE Facilities Management Services and the HiCUB Project, and of course, the volunteers.

2012 is set to be bigger and better, with the launch of the second stage of regeneration works in Dumaresq Ck. Working with UNE FMS and the Armidale Urban Rivercare Group we are going to move east from the Goat Track Bridge, cleaning up tonnes of woody weeds and planting a mix of local natives guaranteed to bring some wildlife back to the creek.

We need your help though, because the more people we have, the faster this work gets done and the sooner we all get to enjoy our efforts.
